Augustana - Boston

Augustana es una de esas bandas yanquis que basan gran parte de sus canciones en el piano, como pueden ser también "The Fray" o "One Republic". Fundada en 2003, estos chicos de California, llevan editados 2 discos y una formación que ha sido bastante inestable durante estos 5 años. Su último trabajo de reciente aparición es "Can't Love, Can't Hurt" y el single de promoción es "Sweet and Low". Pero el tema que hoy les dejo es su mayor éxito hasta el momento; es el pegajoso "Boston" de su disco "All the Stars and Boulevards" del año 2006, y el tema se cansó de sonar en cuanta serie y evento de televisión estadounidense existiera, alcanzando el puesto #34 del Billboard Hot 100.

Plain White T´s - Hey there Delilah

Plain White T´s es otra banda de estadounidense de la siempre prometedora ciudad de Chicago; giran en torno de ese punk/rock/pop por el que se mueven muchísimas bandas allá en el norte. Tienen 4 discos editados hasta el momento, 2 lanzados de manera independiente; y alcanzaron la fama con el tema que les dejo, el hit "Hey there Delilah" que se incluyó en el disco "All that we need", donde pasó sin pena ni gloria. Pero fue relanzado en el siguiente disco que llevó como nombre "Every Second Counts" agregándole una sección de cuerdas, y el éxito fue inevitable. "Delilah" consiguió llegar al número uno del Billboard estadounidense, y de las listas de varios países europeos. ¿Otros temas destacables de la banda? por lo poco que escuché puedo decirles "A lonely September", "Our time now" y "Radios in heaven"; si hay tiempo y oportunidad algún día hablaré de alguno de esos.

Schuyler Fisk - Hello

Una guitarra, una voz femenina y una linda melodía... una receta tan simple como infalible en mi caso. Schuyler Fisk (se lee "Scailer") es una joven norteamericana de 25 años que hace un folk bastante amigable y simpático. En Estados Unidos la (poca) fama que tiene se la debe al haber grabado el tema "Paperweight" a duo con Joshua Radin, que se incluyó en la banda sonora de la película "The Last Kiss" una remake de un filme italiano protagonizada por el sensacional Zach Braff.

The Wallflowers - One Headlight

The Wallflowers es una banda formada en Los Ángeles (EE. UU.) a principios de los 90, compuesta por el vocalista y guitarrista Jakob Dylan (hijo de Bob Dylan), Fred Eltringham (batería), Rami Jaffee (teclado) y Greg Richling (bajo). Practican un rock honesto, con baladas hábiles y perspicaces y fuertes pinceladas de soul.
En 1996 editan Bringing Down the Horse, que consigue en gran éxito en las emisoras independientes con 6th Avenue Heartache; y a finales de 1996, se edita el single One Headlight el cual consiguió llegar a la cima de las listas de ventas. "Bringing Down the Horse"Bruce Springsteen en los MTV Video Music Awards de 1997.

Probablemente sea el ejemplo de un buen artista que tiene que demostrar siempre el doble que los demás, por ser hijo de su padre. Si bien es evidente que Jakob no llega al nivel de "papá Bob", es innegable que a partir de su talento (y el de sus compañeros de ruta) logró hacerse un merecido lugar en el mundo de la música. les vaió dos premios Grammy, uno por Mejor Interpretación Vocal de un Duo o Grupo de Rock y otro por Vocal en "One Headlight". Haley James Scott - Halo

Con este tema vuelvo al "pop con distorsiones", el que debo reconocer que (escondido en el armario) es una de mis debilidades. "Haley James Scott" es el personaje que interpreta Bethany Joy Lenz en la serie americana para adolescentes "One Tree Hill". Este tema se incluyó en el 2do disco de la banda sonora de la serie llamado "Friends with Benefits", cuya recaudación se destinó en parte hacia una fundación contra el cáncer de mama.
Tuvo la oportunidad de"compartir disco" con algunos artistas de los que ya he hablado anteriormente, como "Nada Surf" o "Hot Hot Heat", y algunos que todavía siguen en el baúl como Tyler Hilton. El lanzamiento del disco, tuvo a Bethany Joy Lenz como participante de una gira nacional que la llevó a recorrer prácticamente todos los Estados Unidos.
Sinceramente no es un tema que pasará a la historia, pero con una energía que te pone bastante arriba.

Jack Savoretti - Between the minds

Jack Savoretti ha logrado con su disco debut "Between the minds" convertirse en un suceso en Inglaterra. Pero su éxito dista de lo comercial (el disco alcanzó "solamente" el puesto 70), con solo 24 años ha logrado que la crítica lo comparara con Simon & Garfunkel, y algunos lo describen como el nuevo Bob Dylan. Si está a la altura de estas opiniones solo el tiempo y los discos lo dirán, lo cierto es que Savoretti tiene una facilidad para retratar en tono acústico las fragilidades humanas con la que muy pocos artistas cuentan. Habrá que manterle el oído encima para ver si se mantiene por esta senda...

Grace Potter & The Nocturnals - Apologies

"Grace Potter & The Nocturnals"; es una banda de formación relativamente reciente (2004), en la zona de Vermont, bien al norte de Estados Unidos. Comandados en la voz (maravillosa por cierto) y teclados hammond por Grace Potter, en estos años fueron teloneros de varias bandas, siendo probablemente su punto más alto el haber compartido un escenario con "Dave Matthew´s Band". El resto de la banda se compone de Matt Burr, Scott Tournet y Bryan Dondero.
La canción "Apologies" estuvo sonando en series como "One Tree Hill" y "Kyle XY", de esta manera lograron un poco más de repercusión en el ambiente musical norteamericano.
