Aparenteme mybloop la página donde se reproducían las canciones ha desaparecido, así que ahora estoy viendo de hacer funcionar una radio que ya pueden escuchar acá :

The Fray - You found me

"The Fray" fue una de las primeras bandas en prestar (legalidades al márgen...) una de sus canciones para el blog, siendo en su momento "How to save a life" la elegida, tema con el que eventualmente dieron la vuelta por todas las radios del mundo. Así que voy a pecar de falto de originalidad al elegir su nuevo corte para esta entrada. El mismo se encuentra en su reciente disco que está titulado del mismo modo que la banda, recurso normal para un primer disco, no tanto así para el "sophomore" como dirían en el país del norte.
"You found me" es un tema que repite la receta del disco debut de la banda, rock alternativo con el piano de Isaac Slade yendo bien al frente y con una clara influencia de bandas como Coldplay, y en la misma sendas que otras como OneRepublic. El disco también incluye otras perlas como "Never say never", que probablemente ya serán motivo de otro post en el futuro.
Se que no estoy descubriendo a ningún artista con esta entrada, pero permitanme esa libertad por haberlos puesto hace casi 2 años cuando no los escuchaba prácticamente nadie. Por último una novedad; recibí la sugerencia de alguien diciendome que debería dejar links para bajar los discos... así que empezaré a hacerlo (si alguien está interesado en alguno de los anteriores aviseme)

The All American Rejects - Back to me

Debo reconocerlo, he pecado... me sigue gustando "The All American Rejects". Parecen no querer cambiar su fórmula de power pop pegajoso, no son ambiciosos con las letras, y son una banda para adolescentes; pero a fuerza de melodías pegajosas se han ganado un lugar en mi lista (otra vez)
Voy a permitirme robar algunas frases de la reseña del blog otrastardes:

"Con When the World Comes Down, este cuarteto de Oklahoma parece no querer oír nada sobre aquello que llaman “perspectivas mayores”, o “maduración de estilo”
No esperen más profundidad en estas doce canciones, que las que pueden tener dos púberes haciendo alarde de su currículo amoroso. De hecho la banda parece más esmerada en la elaboración y campaña de lanzamiento de sus videos en los que Tyson Ritter siempre luce más con vocación histriónica que otra cosa. Pero dentro de sus limitaciones no puedo dejar de reconocer un acabado instrumental un tanto más interesante (no menos se puede esperar teniendo a zorro como Eric Valentine en la producción)."

Así y todo, no puedo evitar escucharlo. Con temas como "Gives you hell", "Mona Lisa" "Another heart calls", "Fallin Apart" y la que aquí les dejo "Back to me", suman otras canciones que sirven como instructivo para el que quiera que su tema suene en la radio; la misma receta con la que crearon temas como "It ends tonight", "Move Along" o "Dirty Little Secret" en su disco anterior.

Group1Crew - Forgive me

Hasta ahora venía siendo bastante "conservador" con el draft de canciones, así que hoy voy a intentar arriesgar un poco más... Nunca fui un gran fanático del rap o hip-hop o como se llame; pero por alguna extraña razón, este tema de Group1Crew una banda de "rap católico" (si gente, existe algo así) me tiene muy enganchado. Si tengo que decir 2 cosas que me gustan son la parte que canta Blanca (la chica) y el latiguillo de "God please" que utiliza Pablo el cual me hace sentir un rapero y un predicador de iglesia gospel al mismo tiempo.
Group 1 Crew esta formado por Blanca, voz líder, Pablo y Manwell, dos talentosos emcees que crean los escenarios musicales llenos de contagioso ritmo pop urbano con una interesante variante latina. Es así que en su música se ven fusionados el hip-hop, dance, pop, urban, funk, R&B y latino. El trabajo es un viaje súper versátil...

Matthew Perryman Jones - Save You

Después de mucho tiempo vuelvo. Hoy les dejo algo de Matthew Perryman Jones (no, quedense tranquilos; Chandler de "Friends" no sacó un disco)

Nacido en 1973 es un cantautor americano que actualmente vive en Nashville, Tennessee.
En 2006 lanzó el álbum Throwing Punches in the Dark (Lanzando golpes a ciegas). Este álbum, producido por Neilson Hubbard (Glen Phillips, Garrison Starr), es una salida de su anterior estilo Folk Americano, dirigiendose hacia un sonido algo más Pop Rock,siendo bien recibido por los críticos y aficionados.
En 2007, se le pidió llevar a cabo en el Teatro de Alabama en Birmingham, abma,la eleracion del 10ºAniversario del Reg s Coffee House. Mateo compartió escenario con Stoll Vaughan, Jim James (My Morning Jacket) y Patty Griffin.
En 2008, Matthew se unió de nuevo con el productor Neilson Hubbard para producir un nuevo LP, que fue lanzado bajo el nombre de "Swallow the Sea", y en el que se incluye esta canción.

Grace Potter & Bethany Joy Lenz - I want something that I want

A diferencia del título de esta entrada, el contenido va a ser corto porque me tengo que levantar muy temprano mañana, pero más que nada porque ya he comentado algo sobre estas dos artistas, ya habíamos hablado de Bethany Joy Lenz con "Halo" y del mismo modo ya lo habíamos hecho con Grace Potter y su increíble "Apologies", en este caso se juntaron para hacer un dueto de una canción inédita hasta el momento "I want something that I want" que la grabaron para las "One Tree Hill Sessions", así que hasta el momento solo se editó como single para venderse a través de ITunes, que se vio en algún capítulo de la 6ta temporada de "One Tree Hill" que se está transmitiendo actualmente.

Pete Murray - Opportunity

Pete Murray es un cantautor australiano que roza los 40 años y tiene un extraño record, todos sus (escasos) tres discos alcanzaron el Nº1 de los charts de su país. En su juventud fue un muy buen deportista hasta que "tardíamente" a los 22 años (edad que alcancé en estos días) aprendió a tocar la guitarra y se animó a tocar para sus amigos, y con mucha práctica fue puliendo su técnica hasta comenzar a componer sus propias canciones basándose en las influencias de Bob Dylan, Neil Young y Nick Drake. Así que no pierdo las esperanzas de algún día poder seguir sus pasos... me faltaría una sola cosa llamada talento, pero en la música de hoy en día parece ser lo de menos.
Opportunity era el tema que abría el 2do álbum de Murray "See the sun" del 2005 y fue el 3er single de este. Tiene una de esas letras de las que me gusta su mensaje pero que lamentablemente no pongo en práctica demasiado, y con la fórmula minimalista de la guitarra acústica y solo alguna que otra cosa más en la grabación que siempre da tan buenos resultados.

Jason Mraz - I´m Yours

Acá en el hemisferio sur desde donde escribo ya se vienen los meses de verano; y no se porque este tema de Jason Mraz me resulta ideal para ir entrando en calor. "Mr. AZ" como lo apodan, suele mezclar diferentes ritmos: pop, rock, reggae, incluso hip-hop en sus canciones. Y fue con "I´m yours" la canción con la cual este oriundo de Virginia, Estados Unidos obtuvo su mayor reconocimiento, alcanzo el puesto 6 del Billboard Hot 100, y algunos primeros puestos alrededor del mundo.
Mraz, lanzó una versión de la canción en el demo de 2005 "Extra Credit" junto con otras dos canciones, y en 2008 fue relanzada con una versión "aggiornada"; siendo muy bien recibida por el público y con muy buenas ventas a través de internet. Finalmente también se incluyó en el album "We sing. We dance. We steal things" y gracias a esta canción el disco llegó al número 3 del "Billboard 200"

Rhet Miller - Come around

Trato de ser constante con esto del blog pero la verdad que me cuesta bastante, así que después de algunos días de deficit de internet regreso (nuevamente) Rhet Miller, llevó adelante durante su vida dos proyectos paralelos, por un lado fue el cantante de la banda de country alternativo "Old Boys" y por el otro, desarrolló su carrera solista en la que sacó 3 discos en casi 20 años (por lo menos puedo decir que escribo en el blog más seguido de lo que el saca un disco) Es en su segundo disco solista, "The Instigator" del año 2002 donde se encuentra "Come around" la cual sino me equivoco la escuché en Scrubs. Como un bonus track, también les cuento que realizó el cover de los Beatles, "Girl" para el disco que se hizo como homenaje por los 40 años de "Rubber Soul"

Robbie Seay Band - Song of hope

Perdón nuevamente por esta larga ausencia, que se debió mas que nada a problemas con el reproductor de mp3 que ven a su izquierda... voy a ver si le encuentro la vuelta.
Pero volviendo a lo nuestro; la verdad que el "rock católico" debe ser una de las mejores herramientas (al menos conmigo parece funcionar) para atraer fieles hoy en día. Robbie Seay Band es el proyecto liderado (obviamente) por Robbie Seay, y es la banda estable de Ecclesia una iglesia de la zona de Houston, donde Chris Seay (hermano de Robbie) es el pastor.

Robbie Seay y sus discípulos, dieron el salto de la iglesia a la discográfica en el 2005 y lanzaron su primer disco oficial " durante el 2007; si prestamos atención a sus letras sus alusiones a lo religioso son inevitables, pero si tienes otro tipo de creencias basta con no prestarle atención a las palabras (el no entender inglés tambien ayuda) para disfrutar de una muy buena melodía.
Así que si andan por Estados Unidos y quieren escuchar música del estilo de Keane pero con ciertos toques celestiales y mensajes de esperanza, ya saben por donde pasarse.

Lifehouse - All in all

Lifehouse me produce una sensación bastante contradictoria, por un lado tienen una cantidad de canciones interesantes; por el otro, no creo que valga la pena escuchar más de cuatro de ellas seguidas, menos aún un disco entero. Probablemente esto se deba a que sus temas me resultan parecidos entre sí; encontraron el "tipo de canción" que les da resultados y no salen de esa receta.
Por eso puede ser que haya optado por un tema que no ha sido corte de difusión de ninguno de sus álbumes, "All in all".
Lifehouse se formó allá por el año 99 y estos casi diez años de carrera le permitieron conseguir un par de éxitos como "Take me away" o "You and me", la cual pertenece a su tercer disco, lanzado en el 2005 y que llevaban el nombre de la banda como título. En ese mismo disco se incluye "All in all", la cual no se sale mucho de la "receta Lifehouse", guitarras que comienzan acústicas, líneas de bajo que cumplen y la áspera voz de Jason Wade en primer plano.

Llevaba un rato sin aparecer por el blog, y felizmente veo que hemos pasado (y por bastante) las 7000 visitas; lo que significa que detrás del monitor hay alguien que me lee...
Ya les había hablado anteriormente de "The All American Rejects"; cuando les dejé "It ends tonight"; hoy lo que les dejo acá es "Move Along"; una canción que les puedo asegurar que va muy bien en el reproductor de mp3 cuando salís a correr (bueno en realidad no hay mucha evidencia, solo salí a correr una vez, pero sirvió...)
"Move along" fue el segundo single del disco homónimo, y fue lanzado en este formato en enero del 2006. Alcanzó el puesto #15 del "Billboard Hot 100" y la banda lo tocó en la edición 2006 de los "MTV Video Music Awards"

The Feeling - Sewn

The Feeling irrumpe en el mundo de la música en el año 2006 y a partir de ese momento se convirtieron en un suceso comercial en Inglaterra. Su disco debut "Twelve stops and home" es una obra maestra del pop, y un ejemplo de como tiene que sonar una banda popular en este siglo. A través de pegajosas melodías, un excelente manero de coros y algunos arreglos electrónicos, estos londinenses grabaron un disco que alcanzó a vender más de 1.5 millones de copias. El primer corte de difusión fue el tema que acá les dejo "Sewn". Como toda banda pop obviamente no escaparon a las críticas constantes de un sector del periodismo "especializado" que los tildó de comerciales, pero al fin y al cabo su propuesta es honesta; no pretenden ser super estrellas de rock tampoco. Durante el 2008 salió su 2do disco, "Join with us" el cual en mi opinión no se encuentra a la altura de su predecesor; pero en el cual se destacan un par de canciones bastante interesantes.

Tyler Hilton - Glad

"Ningún parentezco con Paris"; de esta manera se presenta Tyler Hilton, tratando de marcar diferencias con su no tan talentosa tocaya. Y la verdad que resulta bastante raro que recién a estas alturas aparezca por acá; siendo uno de los primeros artistas que escuché de este estilo (cuando no) en One Tree Hill. La primera impresión que podemos tener al buscar una de sus fotos es "uh otro rubiecito haciendo pop"; y si bien por un lado es pop lejos está de ser "otro rubiecito"; estamos hablando de un canta-autor muy interesante con un excelente manejo de las melodías, al punto de ser nombrado por algún sector de la crítica como "el nuevo Bryan Adams". Tiene editados hasta el día de hoy 2 discos (de los cuales el primero me resultó imposible de conseguir), siendo el último el lanzado en 2004 "The tracks of"; en el cual se encuentran muy buenos temas como, o "When It comes"; "The letter´s song" o "Kiss on me"; pero finalmente me decidí por dejarles "Glad", que si bien a esta altura no me parece su mejor canción fue el primero que escuché y por el cual busqué algo más de su material, así que me parece lo más justo. Una versión de este mismo tema pero "acústica" se puede encontrar en la banda de sonido de One Tree Hill.
Paralelamente a su carrera como cantante también tuvo algunos roles como actor, participando en la ya nombrada "One Tree Hill"; e interpretando el papel del mismísimo Elvis Presley en la biografía de Johnny Cash "Walk the line"
Por último, les cuento que se espera el lanzamiento de su nuevo disco para este año 2008, así que habrá que esperar nomás...

Matt Nathanson - I Saw

Matt Nathanson es uno de esas razones por los que me gustaría ir de bares por Estados Unidos; son esos artistas que hacen giras por todo el país tocando en lugares chicos; la cual parece la mejor manera de apreciar su música. Porque coincidamos en que los estadios o los teatros multitudinarios no son el mejor ámbito para su folk/soft rock. Su carrera comienza en el año 1993, con el lanzamiento de su primer álbum Please, y 14 años después aparece el que es hasta ahora su último trabajo Some Mad Hope, disco del que destaco el tema "All we are". Pero la canción elegida para el post de hoy "I Saw" se encuentra en su 5to disco "Beneath these fireworks" del año 2003, y sino me equivoco la escuché en el segundo capítulo de la sexta temporada de Scrubs; y de ahí vino directamente a "Ni a la esquina".

James Carrington - Ache

Hay una gran diferencia entre esta entrada y la última que había hecho; sobre "Maybe I´m Amazed" tenía mucho para decirles, sobre James Carrington no se prácticamente nada. Solo que escuché esta canción en algún programa de televisión y salí disparado a ver como se llamaba. Por lo (muy) poco que escuché, hace folk y es inglés; y si nos remitimos al último artista que tenía estas dos características y que estuvo en este blog, llegamos a Jack Savoretti, por lo que la vara está muy alta como para comparar. James Carrington es uno de esos pocos músicos (menos aún en latinoamérica) que estudiaron música en la universidad, y sus influencias van por el lado de James Taylor, Paul McCartney, el mismo Colin Hay del que ya hablaré luego, entre otros; por lo que se pueden hacer una idea sobre que esperar de él.

PD: Si están pensando que últimamente pongo muchas canciones "tranquilas", pueden llegar a tener razón... es lo que suena en mi PC en estos días; pero ya volverán las distorsiones.

Jem - Maybe I´m Amazed (Paul McCartney´s cover)

Bueno con este tema, debuto en un tipo de canción que venía siendo esquiva en "Ni a la esquina"; un cover. Si bien, la versión original de "Maybe I´m Amazed" resulte casi insuperable para una persona que tiene un fanatismo por los Beatles más allá de lo racional como yo; en este blog trato de poner canciones que sean principalmente de los años 90 para adelante, razón por la que aparece el cover de la galesa Jem (Jemma Griffiths).
Primero un poco de historia sobre la versión original (no se la pierdan sino la escucharon); "Maybe I´m Amazed" es probablemente el primer gran éxito en la carrera de Sir Paul McCartney como solista, se incluyó en el álbum "McCartney" de 1970, junto a otras joyas como "Junk" y "Teddy Boy" (ambos temas compuestos durante la etapa beatle) "Tal vez estoy asombrado", tal como sería la traducción, es uno de los tantos temas que Paul compuso para el gran amor de su vida Linda Eastman, podríamos mencionar también "I will", "Two of us" o "My love". Siete años después de su lanzamiento, fue relanzado como single en Febrero del 77; cabe destacar además que "Maybe I´m Amazed" fue elegido como el tema #338 entre las canciones más importantes de la historia según una encuesta de la Revista Rolling Stone.
Ahora, volviendo a JEM, está galesa nacida en el año 1975 es una artista definitivamente ecléctica, y cruza los límites de los géneros musicales muy a menudo, por lo que resulta muy difícil encasillarla en alguno. Su versión del clásico de Paul, se incluyó en el 2do disco de la Banda de Sonido Original de la serie estadounidense "The OC", y fue el Lado B de su single "They" del 2004.

Augustana - Boston

Augustana es una de esas bandas yanquis que basan gran parte de sus canciones en el piano, como pueden ser también "The Fray" o "One Republic". Fundada en 2003, estos chicos de California, llevan editados 2 discos y una formación que ha sido bastante inestable durante estos 5 años. Su último trabajo de reciente aparición es "Can't Love, Can't Hurt" y el single de promoción es "Sweet and Low". Pero el tema que hoy les dejo es su mayor éxito hasta el momento; es el pegajoso "Boston" de su disco "All the Stars and Boulevards" del año 2006, y el tema se cansó de sonar en cuanta serie y evento de televisión estadounidense existiera, alcanzando el puesto #34 del Billboard Hot 100.

Plain White T´s - Hey there Delilah

Plain White T´s es otra banda de estadounidense de la siempre prometedora ciudad de Chicago; giran en torno de ese punk/rock/pop por el que se mueven muchísimas bandas allá en el norte. Tienen 4 discos editados hasta el momento, 2 lanzados de manera independiente; y alcanzaron la fama con el tema que les dejo, el hit "Hey there Delilah" que se incluyó en el disco "All that we need", donde pasó sin pena ni gloria. Pero fue relanzado en el siguiente disco que llevó como nombre "Every Second Counts" agregándole una sección de cuerdas, y el éxito fue inevitable. "Delilah" consiguió llegar al número uno del Billboard estadounidense, y de las listas de varios países europeos. ¿Otros temas destacables de la banda? por lo poco que escuché puedo decirles "A lonely September", "Our time now" y "Radios in heaven"; si hay tiempo y oportunidad algún día hablaré de alguno de esos.

Schuyler Fisk - Hello

Una guitarra, una voz femenina y una linda melodía... una receta tan simple como infalible en mi caso. Schuyler Fisk (se lee "Scailer") es una joven norteamericana de 25 años que hace un folk bastante amigable y simpático. En Estados Unidos la (poca) fama que tiene se la debe al haber grabado el tema "Paperweight" a duo con Joshua Radin, que se incluyó en la banda sonora de la película "The Last Kiss" una remake de un filme italiano protagonizada por el sensacional Zach Braff.
