Jack Savoretti - Between the minds

Jack Savoretti ha logrado con su disco debut "Between the minds" convertirse en un suceso en Inglaterra. Pero su éxito dista de lo comercial (el disco alcanzó "solamente" el puesto 70), con solo 24 años ha logrado que la crítica lo comparara con Simon & Garfunkel, y algunos lo describen como el nuevo Bob Dylan. Si está a la altura de estas opiniones solo el tiempo y los discos lo dirán, lo cierto es que Savoretti tiene una facilidad para retratar en tono acústico las fragilidades humanas con la que muy pocos artistas cuentan. Habrá que manterle el oído encima para ver si se mantiene por esta senda...

Grace Potter & The Nocturnals - Apologies

"Grace Potter & The Nocturnals"; es una banda de formación relativamente reciente (2004), en la zona de Vermont, bien al norte de Estados Unidos. Comandados en la voz (maravillosa por cierto) y teclados hammond por Grace Potter, en estos años fueron teloneros de varias bandas, siendo probablemente su punto más alto el haber compartido un escenario con "Dave Matthew´s Band". El resto de la banda se compone de Matt Burr, Scott Tournet y Bryan Dondero.
La canción "Apologies" estuvo sonando en series como "One Tree Hill" y "Kyle XY", de esta manera lograron un poco más de repercusión en el ambiente musical norteamericano.

Trading Yesterday - My last goodbye

Trading Yesterday fue la banda que David Hodges formó al salir de Evanescence en diciembre de 2002 (antes del lanzamiento de Fallen). Sus compañeros eran Mark Colbert (batería) y Steven McMorran (bajo y 2da voz) y David era la voz principal, además de tocar la guitarra y el piano. TY lanzó su primer material, "The Beauty & The Tragedy" en el verano de 2005 con Epic Records, pero realmente no recibió mucha exposición, de hecho creo que ni siquiera se hizo un video para promocionar el single que fue "One Day". En noviembre de ese mismo año, deciden salirse de Epic y debido a eso, lo que sería su segundo disco, "More Than This" se quedó enlatado.
En junio de 2006, Colbert decide salirse de la banda para seguir su carrera como ingeniero de audio. En agosto de 2007, se anunció que Trading Yesterday dejaba de existir y que Hodges y McMorran emprenderían un nuevo proyecto llamado The Age of Information, con un enfoque más electrónico. Lanzaron un EP y están trabajando actualmente en un disco completo.

More Than This se supone que es una versión corregida y aumentada de The Beauty & The Tragedy, pues contiene varios temas de ese disco regrabados. TY básicamente era una banda de rock pop, muy similar a grupos como The Fray o OneRepublic que son tan populares hoy en día. La particularidad de Trading Yesterday radicaba en la voz de David y sobretodo, en sus letras, que son muy intensas. Si bien es cierto que en varias canciones se nota el "toque cristiano" (razón por la cual David siguió un camino distinto a lo que sería Evanescence) es fácil identificarse con ellas.

Cary Brothers - Jealousy

La verdad que cada vez más espaciado, pero tratando de mantenerme a flote acá les va otro tema.
Cary Brothers no es el nombre de una banda, si no el de un cantante y compositor norteamericano nacido en Nashville hace treinta y cuatro años. A pesar de ser un admirador de Elvis Presley, otro nativo de Tennessee, sus principales influencias han sido la new wave británica y el folk americano de los años 70. Ganador de un Grammy por su tema Blue Eyes, incluido en la banda sonora de la película Garden State, otras de sus canciones han sonado en diferentes series de televisión como Scrubs, o "Grey´s Anatomy". Curtido en el directo, tiene dos Eps publicados y a finales de mayo verá la luz Who You Are, su primer álbum, en el cual se incluye el tema "Jealousy"; que tiene una estética que me suena muy conocida, a "ustedes también"? (U2) :P

The All-American Rejects - It ends tonight

En este caso "It ends tonight" de The All American Rejects un tema pop (las distorsiones no lo pueden ocultar del todo); podríamos llamarlo power pop o rock pop, pero no por eso deja de ser una canción que en su momento se pegó como pocas. La canción en cuestión perteneció a su segundo disco "Move Along" del año 2005, y significó el despegue en el mercado anglosajón para esta banda de Oklahoma, con el cual alcanzaron el top10 en varios rankings de Estados Unidos y el Reino Unido.
"It ends tonight" arranca solo con un piano y la voz de Tyson Ritter (vocalista lider y bajista); para luego de una primera estrofa dar paso a las distorsiones que prevalecerán durante practicamente toda la canción.
Si, una balada pop, distorsiones y algunos falsetes de voz conforman una receta para crear una canción; por lo menos en mi caso, definitivamente pegadiza.

The Honorary Title - Stay Away

Por 3ra vez he cambiado el reproductor de mp3, vamos a ver si de una vez por todas me conforma alguno. Ahora, empiezo a contarles un poco de la canción en cuestión:
"The Honorary Title"; otra de esas bandas que descubro gracias a "One Tree Hill" (serie que me ha traído grandes satisfacciones músicalmente hablando) se apega a la estética de típica banda indie estadounidense de hoy en día; mezclando elementos acústicos con algunos eléctricos y moviendose entre el rock independiente y el pop comercial (o tal vez rock comercial y pop independiente... quien sabe) Es una banda de reciente aparición, y que lanzó su primer disco en el año 2004, y durante 2007 nos entregó su "Scream and Light Up the Sky" en la cual se incluye la canción "Stay away". Como ya resulta una constante en las "entregas" anteriores del blog, en mi supercalificada y (y humilde, jaja) opinión lo que destaco es el final de la canción cuando practicamente todos los instrumentos se enmudecen y solo queda la voz de Jarrod Gorbel y su "stay away from me".

Nada Surf - Inside of Love

Después de un tiempo más que largo de vacaciones (tanto reales como del blog) vuelvo a dejarles un tema. Por primera vez voy a repetir una banda, (y si voy a hacerlo que sea una que lo justifique), por eso vuelvo a elegir a Nada Surf; banda de la que ya les había hablado acá; por lo que no voy a comentar mucho sobre ellos. La principal novedad desde ese día hasta hoy es que han sacado un nuevo (y en mi caso, esperado) disco llamado Lucky.
Volviendo al tema de hoy, es la instrospectiva "Inside of Love", la cual venía incluída en el disco del año 2003 "Let Go" Con un sonido muy "radioheadizado"otros quizás lo encuentren un poco más cerca de Coldplay. Como la gran mayoría de las composiciones de esta banda americana, presenta unas líneas de bajo que cumplen un papel más que destacado en la estructura del tema, acompañado por una voz sin muchos matices, pero que en este caso es la interpretación perfecta para una letra que sabe conjugar lo agridulce y melancólico que resulta el amor.
